The Dan Deacon Ensemble will be putting on an outdoor matinee performance by Logan Square’s Illinois Centennial Monument and The A.V. Club has, not one, but three pairs of tickets to give away, thanks to our friends at 312unes. This sure-to-be-nothing-less-than-stunning show rocks the square Sunday, Oct. 10. Please e- mail ochicago@theonion.com immediately for a chance to win, including “Deacon” in the subject line. Winners will be drawn Oct. 8.

Equal parts Devo, Neu!, The Beach Boys, Prince, and John Tesh, Baltimore wunderkind Dan Deacon’s continually evolving music has ballooned to orchestral proportions in recent years. Mainly staffed by hometown friends and collaborators, his 14-member big band focuses largely on percussion, keys, and vocal harmonics. Deacon’s subtle arrangements come off deceptively simple until they furiously morph into near-train-wreck chaos, saving themselves in the nick of time with stop-on-a-dime dynamic shifts. This show is one of only seven stops on the Dan Deacon Ensemble’s cross-country sprint with Rhode Island brutal prog duo Lightning Bolt
