Datarock, derived from the Norwegian word for computer—“datamaskin” and the word “rock” (meaning rock music made on a computer)—is an electro rock band. Formed in 2000 as Fredrik Saroea, Ketil Mosnes, and Kevin O’Brien, the trio soon hired Tom Mæland. O’Brien and Mæland later left the band, but the duo of Saroea and Mosnes continued the project. The band is a perfect breeding ground for alternative dance music, fostering Datarock’s mix of indie dance, new wave, pop, rock, punk, and funk. As the band so modestly puts it, “We are the peak of pop evolution.”
