Win tickets to see Dennis Coffey or U.S. Royalty
Dennis Coffey
The A.V. Club has tickets for music fans to enjoy some quality time soaking in an eclectic compilation of funky and soulful music from Dennis Coffey, The Stepkids, and DJRC at Lincoln Hall on June 9. And then for a complete 180, Schubas hosts U.S. Royalty and Chrash to represent the new wave of fresh, green, and summery sounds on June 10. For a chance to win a pair of tickets to either performance, shoot an e-mail to ochicago@theonion.com with “Dennis Coffey” or “U.S. Royalty” in the subject line.
Dennis Coffey has had a ridiculously prolific career, spanning decades, that warrants some major bragging rights. His résumé includes membership in bands like The Royaltones, Funk Brothers, and Motown’s house band. Coffey has also managed to stay relevant even in modern times; recently, NPR featured his song “Space Traveller” as its Song Of The Day.
U.S. Royalty is a band from Washington D.C., which is surprisingly appropriate considering its name, that is just beginning to take off into the world of celebrity-dom. The band has had a brief taste of fame from stints in SXSW, NXNE, Art Basel, and CMJ, but this group of fresh new artists has only just dropped its debut full-length, MIRRORS, at the beginning of this year. There’s a lot to look forward to, like singer John Thornley’s laid-back voice and the animated, energetic guitar riffs that add a kick to each track.
