Dntel

This week The A.V. Club has your chance to win tickets to see electronic music outfit Dntel or blues and folk duo Smoke Fairies. Dntel will be performing at Lincoln Hall Aug. 12 with The One AM Radio opening, while Smoke Fairies will hit the stage at Schubas Aug. 15. Interested parties, send an e-mail to The A.V. Club at ochicago@theonion.com with the name of the show you’d like to see in the subject line. Please include your full name in the body of the message.

Jimmy Tamborello, the man behind Dntel, may be best known for his work with Ben Gibbard in The Postal Service, as well as for his involvement in many other outfits, including Figurine, Strictly Ballroom, and Headset. A pioneer in the development of glitch and electronica music, Tamborello’s most recent releases under the Dntel moniker, After Parties 1 & 2, debuted in December of 2010. The EPs includes such starkly beautiful and lyric-free tracks as “Soft Alarm” and “Aimless.”

Smoke Fairies is the creation of two twee girls from Britain, who happened to fall in love with the sounds of Americana and folk. With their relocation to New Orleans and a few recording sessions with Jack White under their belts, they have released their debut album, Through Low Light And Trees. Songs like “Summer Fades” and “Hotel Room” hit a sweet spot in with a blend of beautiful harmonies, blues, and alternative folk.
