Win tickets to see Emilie Autumn at Metro Feb. 18
The A.V. Club has a pair of tickets to give away to Victorian gothic princess Emilie Autumn’s Feb. 18 burlesque show at Metro. To win, interested parties should e-mail ochicago@theonion.com and include “Emilie Autumn” in the subject line.
Poet and violinist Emilie Autumn describes her music and style as “Victoriandustrial.” Deeply inspired by the Victorian era, Autumn’s music and performances are extremely theatrical. As if a classical violin, drumming, yelling, and locomotive-like sounds weren’t enough, Autumn’s burlesque performances, which she calls “dinner theatre,” include throwing tea and tea-time snacks into the audience and fire tricks while talking about self-mutilation and abuse. To affectionately put it, it’s kind of like a feminine GWAR concert. But the drama doesn’t stop there—Autumn released an autobiography, The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls—that was written in red crayon during her time in a mental institute for attempted suicide. She is currently working on an album titled Fight Like A Girl.
