It’s not easy to start a band in 2009 and get your name in Rolling Stone by 2011, especially if you’re a band that seems to be stuck in 1969, like Fitz And The Tantrums. After Maroon 5’s Adam Levine was encouraged to listen to Fitz And The Tantrums by his tattoo artist, he invited the group to join Maroon 5’s tour. Fitz And The Tantrums dropped their first full-length album, Pickin’ Up The Pieces, this past August and performed on Jimmy Kimmel this month. Talk about whirlwind success. The group’s soulful pop and bursting energy makes it contemporary in a if-Maroon 5-made-a-baby-with-Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings kind of way, and it looks like that’s a good thing.
