Contest Win tickets to see Ivan And Alyosha at Schubas or Tinariwen at Lincoln Hall

Tinariwen

This week, readers of The A.V. Club have a chance to win tickets to see two very different but intriguing bands. Ivan And Alyosha take the stage at Schubas on July 1, while the South Saharan outfit Tinariwen performs at Lincoln Hall July 7. If you are interested in winning free tickets to see either of these shows, send an e-mail to ochicago@theonion.com with the name of the band you’d like to see in the subject line, as well as your full name in the body of the e-mail.

The indie duo Ivan And Alyosha embraces its literary origins, named for the main characters of Dostoevsky’s Brothers Karamazov. The duo addresses such issues as faith in the five-song EP Fathers Be Kind. Ivan And Alyosha received even more attention when the track “Easy To Love” was selected as the NPR Song Of The Day. Allie Moss and GoodByeHome open.

Tinariwen is described as a group of “poet-guitarists and soul rebels.” Many of the group’s songs feature the aspirations of their people, the Kel Tamashek or Tuareg of the Southern Sahara. The band has been active since 1979, with an ever-changing roster of musicians. The group’s latest album, Tassili, will be released on Aug. 30.
