Win tickets to see John Vanderslice or Lord Huron
Lord Huron
With spring (hopefully) around the corner, The A.V. Club is happy to celebrate the beginning of May by giving away some free tickets. There’s nothing like the folky, soothing tunes by John Vanderslice or Lord Huron to accompany the first outing since the bitter winter hibernation. Vanderslice performs May 2 at Lincoln Hall and Lord Huron follows that show up at Schubas the next day. For a chance to win tickets to either of the shows, send an e-mail to ochicago@theonion.com with either “John Vanderslice” or “Lord Huron” in the subject line.
John Vanderslice, perhaps missing companionship that filled his days in the group Mk Ultra, joined forces with Magik Magik Orchestra for his latest album White Wilderness. Released earlier this year, the 19-piece orchestra provides an interesting side note to Vanderslice’s lilting voice. Not only that, but the album also foreshadows a great live show, since the album itself was a largely untouched 3-day live performance. Vanderslice will be joined by special guest performer Damien Jurado.
While Vadnerslice’s sounds are down-to-earth, Lord Huron’s tunes are haunting and dizzying at times. Lord Huron, composed of Ben Schneider and friends from Mighty Band, will team up with local band This Is Cinema to really ramp up its characteristically ethereal tunes.
