Win tickets to see Matthew Good or The Souljazz Orchestra at the Double Door
Matthew Good Band
Blame Canada? More like thank Canada for this one: The A.V. Club is giving away tickets to two shows by some notable Canucks at the Double Door at the end of this month.
If only global politics meshed in real life as well as global music influences do on Souljazz Orchestra albums. The six-member Ottawa outfit—whose instrumental lineup features “vintage keyboards” and three varieties of saxophone—blends elements of jazz, soul, Latin, and African rhythms to create a potent, spicy final product that’s best enjoyed live. They’ll perform Friday, Feb. 24, at the Double Door with funky neo-Motowners The Right Now. To enter to win tickets, e-mail ochicago@theonion.com with the subject line “The Souljazz Orchestra.”
Matthew Good may have coined the phrase “first world problems” (seriously), but don’t expect him to show up smirking smugly in a North Face and top-siders—the British Columbia-born singer-songwriter will bring his earthy, earnest, acoustic sound to the Double Door Saturday, Feb. 25, at 9 p.m. with the stirring, expressive Emily Greene. To enter to win tickets, e-mail ochicago@theonion.com with the subject line “Matthew Good.”
