Spank Rock
Want to dance like crazy at one of two multi-performer tour shows? The A.V. Club is giving away tickets to the Smokers Club Tour at the Congress on Thursday, Oct. 27 and the Check Yo’ Ponytail 2 Tour at the Mid on Friday, Oct. 28. To win tickets, e-mail ochicago@theonion.com with “Smokers Club” or “Check Yo’ Ponytail” in the subject line.
The Smokers Club’s “members” include headliners Method Man and Curren$y. Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Method Man almost needs no introduction. The artist rose with the Wu-Tang Clan and his duo with Redman. He’s also appeared in a number of films over the past decade including How High and Garden State, as well having recurring roles on TV shows like Oz and The Wire. New Orleans rapper Curren$y released his debut solo album in 2009 and is also part of a hip-hp supergroup with Mos Def, Jay Electronica, and Stalley called Center Edge Territory.
Check Yo’ Ponytail, the highly successful electronic concert/dance party held monthly at the Los Angeles Echoplex, has gone on the road for the first time. The tour includes Spank Rock, The Death Set, Pictureplane, Franki Chan, and Big Freedia. CYP2, as it is known now, has become a first-stop for new and noteworthy artists, with a past roster that has included Blonde Redhead, Andrew W.K., Wavves, and Das Racist.
