Contest Win tickets to see Shabazz Palaces or King Creosote

The A.V. Club is giving away a set of tickets for either Shabazz Palaces or King Creosote and Jon Hopkins this week. Shabazz Palaces will be playing with Flow Child and Moonface at Lincoln Hall Saturday, July 16, and King Creosote and Jon Hopkins will be playing with Briar Rabbit July 19 at Schubas. All interested readers should contact The A.V. Club at ochicago@theonion.com with their preferred act in the subject line for a chance to win.

After releasing two critically adored, short albums under the largely unidentifiable alias Palaceer Lazaro, Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler of New York hip-hop trio Digable Planets is just now beginning to pull back the curtain on his work with Shabazz Palaces. The group’s first full-length, Black Up, has staked a claim in Sub Pop history as the first hip-hop release on the label, and with their avant-garde approach to the genre and constant comparisons to Radiohead’s brother-band Flying Lotus, it’s no surprise.

With over 45 albums under his belt, King Creosote teamed up with Eno accomplice & producer Jon Hopkins this May to unleash a concept album portraying “a romanticized version of a life lived in a Scottish coastal village.” The duo’s debut album, Diamond Mine, does just that with its collection of minimalist synth-folk to swoon over.
