Dance house band Tortured Soul plays the Double Door Saturday, Nov. 6, and The A.V. Club has a pair of tickets to the show! Interested parties should e-mail ochicago@theonion.com with “Tortured Soul” in the subject line to win. Winners will be drawn Nov. 5.
Brooklyn’s Tortured Soul bravely ventured into the daring realm of dance floor soul and funk music, and made it out with praise. Tortured Soul’s contagious, pulsing dance beats over modern funk and soul make the band sound a lot like a cheerful, pop version of Massive Attack. In 2006, the band dropped its first full-length album Introducing Tortured Soul, and in 2009 it released Did You Miss Me in efforts to go forward with the future of house music. As a DJ favorite, Tortured Soul has appeared on 25 compilations by the most prominent dance labels.
