Celebrate Chicago with live music at Green Music Fest, which will appease activist souls with comforting vibes from Yo La Tengo June 25 and Les Savy Fav and The Thermals on June 26. The fest will start at noon at Wicker Park on Damen, between North and Schiller.

Yo La Tengo, a band from the dirty Jerz, oscillates between a clean, soothing sound at times and a dissonant one at others. The band’s sure to show off its wide range, with a repertoire of songs that won’t rely on the fateful turn of its wheel.

For a wild performance that won’t leave audience members calmly bopping their heads in appreciation, catch a glimpse of Les Savy Fav’s notoriously crazy live performance. It’s a chance to appreciate the band before it goes into its characteristic hibernation period between albums, once lasting up to six years.

The Thermals, characterized by their upbeat punk-rock sound, is a perfect picker-upper on a Sunday, better known as the day right before dismal Monday. But beware, their lyrics aren’t necessarily guaranteed to be as jolly as their head-bopping tunes.

The live performances will be coupled with chances to enjoy green vendors, local retailers, and kid’s activities, like arts and crafts. For the sake of going green, fans are encouraged to take public transportation or haul ass on their rusty old bikes.
