Unsurprisingly, as Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel have leaned less and less on guest vocalists for their songs as Air, the French duo's precious electronica has not only gotten more personal, but also much stronger—arguably as ubiquitous and rejuvenating as its name. It's been a slow and steady journey: The pair's initial albums were rife with far busier productions that still felt quintessentially chill in their fussy sparseness, but since 2004's Talkie Walkie (which had no guest singers whatsoever) Air's been on a steady climb, bolstered in no part by being tapped to produce film scores and featured on soundtracks. Dunckel tried going solo with 2006's Darkel, but it felt awfully devoid of the magic intrinsic to his partner. Air is far from dormant, though, currently on the road behind last year's slow-burning Love 2.
