Unlike similarly neutered gloss rock band The Ready Set, Allstar Weekend has the Disney credentials to justify its safe music. First absorbed into the entertainment conglomerate as contestants on Next Big Thing (losing out to something called Jonnie & Brookie), the band went on to watch its debut single, “A Different Side Of Me,” top the Radio Disney charts; to appear on Sonny With A Chance; and to release its debut album, Suddenly Yours. Does all of this nonsense make hooky tracks like “Dance Forever” and “Not Your Birthday” easier to ironically enjoy? Absolutely. And thankfully, AW’s songs leave absolutely no trace once you’re finished. The group’s follow-up album, All The Way, features a single called “Not Your Birthday” that had some parents upset on account of some colorful language.
