The Armando Diaz Experience at iO Theater (Del Close)
The Armando Diaz Experience is the longest-running show at the iO theater, bringing together some of the city’s best improvisors for a wildly entertaining, occasionally moving ensemble performance. An average Monday night Armando show brings out talent from iO’s past, present, and future, all to riff on a series of true stories told by a guest monologist. Past speakers include alderman Bernie Hansen and Bill Clinton’s speech writer, as well as countless Chicago-based funny people. The wildly talented cast weaves a complex web of improvised scenes inspired by the smallest details of the guests’ monologues: Callbacks and inside joke-y nods allow for a unique relationship between audience and improvisors, with their shared experiences manifesting themselves in two very different ways.
