When it comes to producing dreamy, reflective shoegaze seemingly tailored to serve as a soundtrack for the climax of a '80s coming-of-age teen comedy, few best New York quartet Asobi Seksu. Fronted by Yuki Chikudate, the band plays ethereal noise-pop, using reverb-drenched guitars and airy organs to counter Chikudate's light, pleasant vocals. Last year's Hush comfortably exists within a swarm of pretty studio flourishes, but for the band’s latest effort, Rewolf, Chikudate and company strip down to acoustic arrangements to prove they can still carry a tune even when their music isn't shrouded underneath layers of noise. Barton Carroll opens, fresh off a new record, Together You And I, in which the former Azure Ray and Crooked Fingers touring musician continues to mix ‘40s-era jazz and witty folk-pop.
