Well over two years ago now, BBU (a.k.a. Bin Laden Blowin’ Up) garnered Pitchfork’s “Best New Music” designation for the single “Chi Don’t Dance,” and with that, the group had a certified summer jam on its hands without an album to support it. Instead of riding the Internet buzz train to cash town, BBU took time to regroup, then released the mix-tape Fear Of A Clear Channel Planet in the spring of 2010. Juking and skittering through lefty political rhetoric and cuts like the LCD Soundsystem-referencing “C.H.I.C.A.G.O.” and urban anthem “This Is Chi-Town,” BBU’s clearly intent on upholding its Windy City-everyman cred. That remains true even today: The band’s latest single, “Jumpers,” is about the band’s commitment to the Midwest even after being told they wouldn’t make it in music here.
