None Ben Lee and Golden Bloom at Martyrs'
Ben Lee has been an indie-rock fixture for so long that it’s hard to believe he’s only 33 years old, but the Australian singer-songwriter has definitely come a long way since recording “I Wish I Was Him,” his 14-year-old ode to Evan Dando. After getting a nice promotional push from people like Thurston Moore and the Beastie Boys during his teen years, Lee has made a name for himself as an adult by writing well-crafted, heart-on-sleeve songs that either make listeners swoon or barf. After his cheesy 2009 record dedicated to a Roman goddess, The Rebirth Of Venus, Lee’s latest record, Deeper Into Dream, is markedly less cringeworthy, albeit a little too earnest for some listeners.
