By all rights, Better Than Ezra should be residing in the “Where Are They Now” file: The New Orleans band scored a huge hit in 1995 with “Good,” but, like many bands of the alt-rock boom, dropped off the pop radar soon after. But Ezra’s resilience is remarkable: The band tours and records consistently, long after its major-label deal fell through. Its relaxed, spacious pop-rock hasn’t changed much—although longtime drummer Travis McNabb left to tour with Sugarland—and the group maintains a loyal fan base, even landing in the Billboard 100 with this year’s workmanlike Paper Empire.
