The Big Pink, Smith Westerns, and The Night Gallery at Lincoln Hall
Despite having released only one full-length, 2009's A Brief History Of Love, London's The Big Pink is already awash in critical praise. Signed to the legendary British label 4AD, The Big Pink is made up of two multi-instrumentalists (Milo Cordell and Robbie Furze) with impressive backgrounds. Cordell operates his own label and puts out releases by other buzz bands such as Crystal Castles and Klaxons, and Furze played guitar with Alec Empire before joining the group. Garage-rockers Smith Westerns have quickly transitioned from misfits at Chicago's Northside College Preparatory High School to opening for bigger, like-minded acts on both local (Alex White) and national levels (Girls). Their 2009 self-titled debut is a wondrous trudge filtered through lo-fi Phil Spector pastiches.
