As Billy Idol and Slash have well learned, in rock, it pays to have an image and stick with it. Bred in England as a classic “up yours!” punk, Idol’s still dancing with himself at the age of 54, nearly 30 years after “White Wedding” hit the charts. Slash is, of course, best known as the hairy, top-hatted guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, but given the current state of Axl Rose, he’d probably rather be known as a member of Velvet Revolver and the leader of Slash’s Snakepit. Idol hasn’t put out anything original since 2006’s terrifying Christmas record Happy Holidays, and Slash only released his first solo effort this year, but maybe this tour will spark a joint future project? After all, the two have collaborated before on a bizarre 2006 cover of Mungo Jerry’s “In The Summertime.”
