Blind Pilot, Laura Veirs And The Hall Of Flames, and Mimicking Birds at Lincoln Hall
Portland’s Blind Pilot began as a duo that toured the West Coast on bikes, developing a batch of humble and solidly melodic songs for its 2008 debut, 3 Rounds And A Sound. The band first started picking up considerable buzz for that album’s single, “Go On, Say It,” which has some of the same distinctly Pacific Northwest mellow of regional progenitors like Death Cab For Cutie and Elliott Smith—which is to say it’s wistful, slightly melancholy, and destined to soundtrack more than a few heartbreaks. Blind Pilot has since added four more touring members to fill out its guitar-banjo-drums sound even further with violins and xylophones, so don’t expect the extended crew to ride into town on their bicycles.
