Bon Jovi and Kid Rock at Soldier Field
If staying power were the measure of anything other than staying power, Bon Jovi would have to go down as a major rock marvel. From hair metal to Young Guns cowboy dirges to gleamy latter-day radio songs, the band has given Bruce Springsteen a run for his Jersey-dominating money. Bon Jovi practically clubs listeners over the head with workingman's woes on last year's The Circle, with songs like "Work For The Working Man" and "Brokenpromiseland" taking current events and giving them a pop-rock sheen. Yet the concern for people's hard times doesn't extend to ticket prices for this tour, which features three different VIP packages ranging in price from expensive to ludicrous ($1,875 for dinner, good seats, and some souvenirs?). But times must not be all that dire: The VIP packages for Chicago are sold out. Those who missed out could seek solace in a bottle of Kid Rock-approved Jim Beam Red Stag bourbon infused with black cherry—a nauseating concoction not unlike shoving hip-hop inside Southern rock.
