Mexican rock bands are usually treated like exotic properties, but as rock en Español forefathers Café Tacuba have shown, major record labels’ failure to adequately market the music doesn’t affect its ability to thrive. Case in point: The band is currently making the rounds in celebration of 20 years of blending Mexican folk music traditions with popular music styles born north of the Rio Grande. The Mexico City group has built up a big-time road show over the last two decades, and this one is as likely to highlight selections from 2007’s Sino as material from the days when vocalist Rubén Isaac Albarrán Ortega registered his nasally snarl under the nom de profanity “Pinche Juan.”
