The New York rapper, who’s been peddling rhymes for almost two decades now, made his name with harrowing tales of a broken adolescence: a father with a penchant for acts of unspeakable violence, a series of long-term hospitalizations, and a drug-derailed stab at a major-label recording career. Depart From Me is Cage’s third album and his second for the Definitive Jux label, where his angry—but always immaculately composed—style has finally found a happy (or at least fitting) home.
