Songs such as “Fucked With A Knife” and “Entrails Ripped From A Virgin’s Cunt” have endeared Cannibal Corpse to hordes of misanthropic twits for almost two decades—but the band has always had more going on upstairs than slasher-flick marathons and skull bongs. Okay, maybe not that much more. But classics such as 1991’s Butchered At Birth approach a deft and knowing self-parody, and 2009's Evisceration Plague did very well commercially for a Cannibal Corpse album, even lodging a debut in Billboard's Hot 100. So, even if hordes of the band’s imitators surpassed them at their own game long ago, Cannibal Corpse has somehow kept its worn-out remains relevant.
