CIMM: Thee Majesty + Penny Arcade, "Secret Screening," Universalove & Naked Lunch at St. Paul's Cultural Center
Well, hand it to CIMM for one thing at least: Its events are indeed a train wreck of music and film. Take this opening night kickoff, built around William S. Burroughs: It starts with the U.S. premiere of Universalove with live music from Austrian band Naked Lunch. It's followed by what CIMM coyly refers to as a "special, but secret" screening of a documentary featuring Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Sonic Youth, Jello Biafra, Grant Hart, and Genesis P-Orridge. Considering the personnel and the theme of the night, it's probably William S. Burroughs: A Man Within, the 2009 documentary by Jonathan Leyser. If that's correct, Leyser will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A. If it's not, well, then someone else will be. Capping the night off are performances by experimental provocateurs: first Penny Arcade, then Thee Majesty, the current musical incarnation of Genesis P-Orridge of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV fame.
