Nowadays, the only type of rock that seems to find a home on radio is soft rock. Luckily, Clip Art does soft rock with integrity. There’s no “Soul Sister”-ing going about, just Mercury-esque harmonies over ’90s-inspired guitar riffs. It’s timely proof the genre can somehow not suck, despite Train’s musical protests. Opener Baby Teeth is so intense that it’s funny, but still totally rocking. The group harkens back to days of yore when groups like The Cars and Weezer had it all: catchy licks, poignancy, and a sense of humor. The Chicago band with a silly name owns these elements and is onto something familiar but original.
