Succinctly articulating Netherfriends is no easy feat. The local collective is a musical chameleon of sorts, though masterfully schooled in the kind of oddball, lurching loops not so perfectly crafted since Menomena’s Friend And Foe. Fans of that Portland band should find plenty to love in Netherfriends, who have only been picking up more steam since the release of last year's six-song EP, Calling You Out. Those handful of songs show remarkable promise, but don't hint at the ambition Netherfriends' Shawn Rosenblatt is demonstrating this year: In addition to the upcoming LP Barry And Sherry, he's also embarking on a self-proposed "50 Songs 50 States" project, in which he'll be staying in every state, writing a song about it, and releasing it, all in the span of a single year.
