Diamanda Galás at Museum of Contemporary Art - Chicago

To some, avant-garde musician Diamanda Galás embodies the unhinged artist. To most, her gurgled shrieks are a joke. Either way, she’s captivating. The original Lady Gaga, Galas’ outlandish garb shouts out artistic statements. She’s never slapped on slabs of T-Bone for media attention. Rather, her look is more meticulous than her contemporary counterpart and more focused. Each stripe of her horror-movie makeup expresses the off-the-wall mentality of her dark melodies. Although her decades-long career has never really blown the doors off an arena, she’s got her loyal followers who recognize the difference between true artistry and thin messages used to manipulate the musical masses.
