The music of The Dirty Guv’nahs could easily calm a room. It’s rock ’n’ roll music for sure, but with a hint of softer, soulful bluegrass. What started out as a hobby aimed at restoring rock’s roots became something bigger after the band (mostly young graduate students) received the attention of Grammy-winner Levon Helm’s studios. And still, the six members don’t shoehorn their young selves, or their music, into today’s traditional rock or pop ideals. The Dirty Guv’nahs come from Knoxville, Tennessee, a community that called them the Best Band In Knoxville for four years. After that, The Guvs broke out and began traveling across the U.S. Their second album, Youth Is In Our Blood, was released in July 2010, a little more than a year after the release of their self-titled debut in 2009.
