Sometimes it’s hard to tell if Josh Jones knows he’s being listened to—the singer-songwriter and mastermind behind Evangelicals has an easy-on-the-ears whiny vocal style that wanders off like a kid in the midst of a game of imaginary play, but it always manages to circle back with a self-aware yelp. The Evening Descends, the Oklahoma band’s debut, layers dreamy guitars and synthesized sound effects over Jones’ vocal fits, creating an appealing lo-fi mix.
