Experimental Garage Sale at Experimental Sound Studio
Chicagoans unable to attend Lollapalooza are essentially left scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to finding notable, esoteric music this weekend, but there’s music just as engaging and infectiously self-indulgent being cranked out at the Experimental Sound Studio’s garage sale. The final list of performers is still being finalized, but the focus here is largely on vendors selling bizarre circuit-bent instruments, toys, and anything electronic that emits a sound. Circuit bending is a DIY method of short-circuiting gadgets to create fucked-up musical instruments and sound generators, and the sale is the only one of its kind in the city. It’s a rare chance to peruse these mechanical oddities in person, and also to meet the "father of circuit-bending," Reed Ghazala.
