California-spawned outfit Gaelic Storm proclaimed its song “Kiss Me I’m Irish,” from its 2006 album Bring Yer Wellies, “the official St. Patrick’s Day theme song of 2007.” That’s a bit of overkill considering that the part-Irish, part-English, part-American crew is, well, about as authentic as a Celtic-fusion band realistically needs to be. That said, Gaelic Storm is a wild and exciting live act, especially for those who think Irish music doesn’t address drinking enough. The group tours behind last summer’s What’s The Rumpus?, an album with overtly winking song titles like “The Night I Punched Russell Crowe” and an almost dizzying assortment of instruments, including Highland bagpipes, mandolins, banjos, accordions, harmonicas, and even spoons.
