Ann Arbor-based imprint Ghostly International was founded 10 years ago by a college student with an eye toward electronic music and a keen sense of design for CD covers and other band merchandise. The label has since expanded to include other electronic-like styles of music, remaining especially welcoming to artists whose genre isn't readily apparent. This M.O. is reflected in the label's jam-packed 10-year anniversary celebration tonight: Headliner Tycho blends easy-listening Lexus-commercial-ready music with MGMT-style beats; Solvent strips the tunes down until they almost sound 8-bit; and Chicago's Kill Memory Crash sounds like it's composing club tunes for a heavy-metal James Bond remake. The event celebrates the endurance of a decidedly independent record label, as well as the success of a 19-year-old's pipe dream.
