Green Music Fest at Eckhart Park
Chicago street fests can be wasteful affairs, but the new Green Music Fest, located in West Town's Eckhart Park, promises to curb the less savory elements. Money raised at the event will go toward improving the park's playground facilities, vendors will only be selling wares made out of recycled products, and the plastic cups will be completely biodegradable. Enjoyably sloppy rock group Art Brut and alt-country outfit Lucero headline Saturday and Sunday night respectively, their shows made possible by generators running on bio-diesel fuel. It's refreshing to see organizers take such a step forward in the green movement; if it's successful, it could herald change at the city's multitude of other festivals. Come early Saturday for Tapes 'N Tapes, Minneapolis indie-rockers whose sound can easily fill the field.
