Hallogallo 2010 and Disappears at Lincoln Hall
Though its brief run in the ’70s produced only three records, Germany’s Neu! made an indelible mark on the collective consciousness of most well-rounded rockers. With Klaus Dinger’s tom-heavy, repetitive drumlines and Michael Rother’s endlessly ripping guitar, Neu! influenced everyone from Wilco to Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem to Hawkwind. Dinger died in 2008, but Rother’s gotten together with Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley and Tall Firs’ Aaron Mullan as Hallogallo 2010, named after one of Neu’s most psychedelic and driving jams. The group performs classic Neu! cuts, with a few Rother solo tracks thrown in for good measure. Young fans take note: It’s never too late to learn where today’s good music originated.
