Missouri-based champions of melodic racket So Many Dynamos perfectly demonstrate how to imaginatively tweak a formula rather than reinvent it. While the sound of their latest full-length, The Loud Wars, doesn’t stray far from the nervous-white-dudes-with-guitars template demonstrated on their debut, Flashlights—and perfected by Les Savy Fav and Tokyo Police Club—it’s punctuated by a knack for furiously complex math-rock runs and abrupt about-faces, a marriage of precision and breathless velocity that’s about as meticulously fucked-up as indie-rock gets. Although vocalist Aaron Stovall dispassionately pleads, “Get me out of this party” (on opener “Artifacts Of Sound”), his band is likely to stir up its own frenzy of shared sweat and mandatory dancing.
