Not content to simply rehash a forward-pushing rockabilly sound, New York's Heavy Trash stamps its own mix on the genre: wailing, wild guitars; muffled yet earth-shaking drums; vocals murky enough to feel environmental, but crisp enough to pick up even the faintest breathing—all no doubt thanks to Jon Spencer acting as frontman. Thus, songs like "Gee I Really Love You," the opener off the group's recent LP Midnight Soul Serenade, sound like rockabilly that's been dug up from the grave and reanimated—a little bit terrifying, but every bit as infectious as the original stuff.
