Hey Champ, French Horn Rebellion, and A&R at Lincoln Hall
Given its quirky, oompah-evoking name, you might expect French Horn Rebellion to be yet another quirky, suspenders-donning indie band playing old-timey melodies with unorthodox instrumentation. Actually, FHR is a dance-pop act for whom old-timey means Yaz circa 1981, and whose members’ production credits include work with fellow au courant synth revivalists MGMT. Yes, one-half of this brother duo did hold the principal French horn chair at Northwestern University for a while, but FHR is more about the disco than the music hall, with its anthemic salvo “Up All Night” hitting all the right pleasure points. The new Beaches And Friends EP finds the group collaborating with Brazilian electro-heads Database.
