Historic proof that militant precision and flailing atonality can spoon together like perfect demon lovers, noise-punishers The Jesus Lizard picked a good year to reunite. Touch & Go re-issued the band's early-'90s masterpieces HeadGoat, and Liar last month, and the tissue around indie-rock's ribs has grown soft and flabby of late. The shows so far have held promising hints that the band's ready to stab back through: Bassist David Sims and drummer Mac McNeilly lock in like twin bayonets, guitarist Duane Denison jabs his taut riffs into the harried death-march rhythm, and bile-spewing frontman David Yow makes a stringy-haired sweat goblin out of himself. (There's no word on whether his penis will be making an appearance at this pair of hometown shows).
