With drag costumes, cheery muppet-like vocals—in a good way; see "Do The Trog"—and equal parts surf and garage rock, The Joans claim to be channeling the spirit of actor Joan Crawford in every part of their act. (They do have a song entitled, "Joan Crawford Goes To Hell," so maybe they're in need of an exorcism.) Whatever the inspiration, the music works; songs are perky and inviting, and the subject matter is just odd enough to keep people's attention, like the riler "Mad At The Dirt." The group releases We Are The Joans tonight.
