Ohio-bred pop chanteuse Kate Voegele began recording demos with her father in high school, and since then she’s found herself performing at Farm Aid with Dave Matthews Band and landing a recurring role on teen soap One Tree Hill. Voegele’s debut on MySpace Records, 2007’s Don’t Look Away, takes a pinch of soul and a handful of talented studio musicians to create a batch of formulaic tunes. While generally predictable—there’s no reason to expect her upcoming A Fine Mess will stray from the formula—the young singer-songwriter can still impress with strong vocals and an occasional country twang.
