Kid Sister dropped the Kanye West-assisted single “Pro Nails” way back in 2007, yet it’s remained her calling card ever since, with references to West’s cameo and her fondness for acrylic artistry heading up seemingly every bio of the Chicago MC. The South Sider also known as Melisa Young looks to expand upon that bio with her long-delayed debut album, the just-released Ultraviolet, which peppers its 12 tracks of driving house beats with sassy raps about the joys of house parties, buying donuts on sale, and, yes, getting your nails did. It’s unabashedly fun-loving, and Kid Sis’ husky, cheerful voice is as infectious and likable as her down-to-earth persona. Throw in the reliably awesome DJ duo Flosstradamus—which includes Kid Sister’s brother/hype man, J2K—and you have the makings of an epic dance party at House Of Blues.
