King Cannibal's take on dub goes beneath thick, wobbling basslines, specializing in a delectable murk that the London producer might as well have dredged up from an accursed shipwreck. That's not to say his 2009 album Let The Night Roar is all dreary density: In addition to the merciless rhythms and samples of creepy voices saying things like "I wanna slice your face," it conjures a nocturnal mingling of warped dancehall, techno hammering, gnarled melody, and even a French-language guest-rap or two. Never sacrificing the rawness of his influences but always distending them into sexy monstrosities, King Cannibal proves a good fit among his Ninja Tune labelmates.
