Land Of The El Caminos, This Is Versailles, and System And Station at Bottom Lounge
System And Station formed 12 years ago in Idaho, then moved to Madison, then later settled in Portland, but the band's music changes locations at an even faster rate. Consistently maintaining a rewarding friction between friendly vocal melodies and anxious drums and guitars, albums like 2008’s A Nation Of Actors and 2006's Here Is Now tend to plunge into turbulent post-punk on one track, then into something a bit more catchy or reflective the next. System And Station's restlessness comes out both in this mix of sounds and in the playing—direct, but always taut, and sometimes a little tricky. The band has a new EP, I'm Here To Kill, and is working on a new full-length.
