Matt & Kim and Amanda Blank at Bottom Lounge
Grand, Matt & Kim’s second album, is named after Grand Street in Williamsburg—not coincidentally the spastic pop duo’s place of residence. It’s a rapidly changing thoroughfare, and a pretty good metaphor for Matt & Kim. Their self-titled 2006 debut was fun but trite, all bubblegum and repetition. Grand dramatically improves the band’s songcraft but keeps the catchiness. Opener Amanda Blank first turned heads with her pants-wettingly filthy guest verse on Spank Rock’s “Bump,” but the self-proclaimed “boastful bitch MC” dropped her first album in July, replete with guest appearances from Santigold, XXXChange, Diplo, and TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek. Going by lead single “I Might Like You Better (If We Slept Together),” the live set here will be teeming with prurient, sweaty club tracks.
