The Methadones, The Wanton Looks, The Reaganomics, and The Sky We Scrape at Bottom Lounge

If nothing else, Methadones frontman Dan Schafer has a consistent musical vision. From his days in legendary (and recently reformed) Chicago band Screeching Weasel to the always-active Methadones, the sound hasn’t varied much, at least to outsiders unfamiliar with pop-punk’s many strains. The center holds again on The Methadones’ most recent full-length: 2007’s This Won’t Hurt leans more toward hook-laden power-pop, but the Ramones influence remains strong. So does the attitude, like on “Getting Older/Losing Touch,” which features the lines “Went to Vans Warped Tour last weekend / All the kids were buying so much crap / Amidst a generation gap / It was so fucking hot, it sucked / Wanted a beer it cost six bucks.”
