Founded in 1997, The Moth is an organization dedicated to the oldest art in the book: telling stories. Its StorySLAM series starts when the group publishes the themes of its upcoming slam online, and storyteller wannabes are asked to rehearse a five-minute relevant tale in advance. Names are put in a hat, and 10 are drawn at the start of the night to speak; if you're not chosen, you can save your story for another time, when a similar theme crops up. The result is an intimate yet spontaneous collection of stories, told by those who experienced them.
